Stormtek Roofing & Restoration

Storm just hit? What to do tonight.

Water coming in, limbs down, shingles in the yard — the moves that protect your family and your future claim, in the order that matters.

01Safety before shingles

Nothing on your roof is worth an ER visit. If a limb is on the structure, if you see sagging drywall, or if water is near electrical fixtures, keep everyone out of that room and call us — that is what the 24/7 line is for.

Do not climb up. Wet shingles and storm debris are genuinely dangerous, and your photos from the ground are worth more to your claim than anything you'd see up there.

02Stop the water, document everything

If water is actively entering, move what you can and contain it — buckets, towels, tarps over furniture. Mitigating damage is your policy's expectation, and reasonable mitigation gets reimbursed when documented.

Then start the file. Photos and video from the ground: the yard, the gutters, the ceilings, the windows. Wide shots first, then close-ups. Note the time. If neighbors have damage, note that too — it establishes the event.

  • Wide photos of every elevation of the house
  • Close-ups of anything damaged or dented
  • Interior water intrusion, with timestamps
  • Anything in the yard: limbs, debris, damaged items

03Call your insurer — but know what to say

You can open the claim tonight or after an inspection — that decision is covered in our claim walkthrough guide. If you call now, report the date and what happened. You are not required to accept the first scope they describe, and you are not required to use their preferred contractor list.

What you should never do: let anyone on your roof before it's documented, sign an emergency-work authorization you haven't read, or cash a check marked 'final'.

04What Stormtek does tonight

Emergency calls roll a crew for tarp and dry-in — we seal the breach, clear the drains, and photograph everything while the evidence is fresh. Those photos become the first pages of your claim file, and the inspection that follows builds the rest.

Still have questions?

This is a free inspection away.

A walk-on inspection answers every question in this guide as it applies to your actual roof — with photos you keep either way.
